Waterfront Art Gallery

Nanchang is a historical city in the centre of China. The largest freshwater lake Poyang is in the northeast of the city. There are also thousands of lakes and rivers. So we say Nanchang, this water city is in the lakes, and the lakes are in the city. Water, bridges, banks, light, fog and forests; they all were the inspiration for the Waterfront Art Gallery. 

This gallery is like a palace, protected by the walls, isolated from the hustle and bustle of the city. The narrow doorway is the entrance of the site. After entering, a long corridor leads us to a zen courtyard. Then we traverse the courtyard, pass through a second entrance of the arc-shaped wall. Finally, we see the enclosed bridge quietly crouching above the calm pond, extending the area.

This hidden scene now reveals itself entirely, with its impressing and powerful structure. The sculptural 21 meter-long bridge is a bold architectural gesture. However, the atmosphere is peaceful and ethereal, as if in a fairyland. Walking along the bridge above the water, it allows taking time to appreciate the sky, water, the bridge, the sculpture on the water and the building. 

In Chinese tradition, beauty is often hidden. Because it is conservative and reserved,  we need to be patient and meticulous to discover this precious and rare beauty.

This project is named Waterfront Art Gallery, but it is not a gallery or a museum as its literal meaning. This is a showroom of Nanchang Vanke Real State Company. It is a pity that not everyone can enjoy the place.
